Q: What is the difference between Pilates and Yoga?

A: Pilates is more dynamic than yoga and less high-impact than aerobic exercises such as jogging or gym work - which can place tremendous strain on the joints. A high proportion of clients come to Pilates for medical reasons, such as bad backs, necks, shoulders, joints or other physical problems.

Q: What can Pilates do for me?

A: There are many benefits...

Q: How often do I need to do Pilates?

A: It is recommended at least twice a week. However, even one class a week is better than none and we will always encourage you to do some homework, especially if you are using Pilates to help with your rehabilitation.

Q: What should I wear to a Pilates class?

A: Something that you are comfortable in and that you can stretch freely in - leggings, tracksuit, t-shirt etc. We do not wear footwear in Pilates, ideally you just wear socks. You may like to bring a small bottle of water to class.

Q: How do I start?

A: The best way to start is by giving me a call or contacting me via email. I can then answer any questions you have. If you want to proceed, I will post or email you an enrolment form and a booking form. The enrolment form asks questions about your medical history, current health and fitness levels and what you are looking to achieve through Pilates.

I will also help you determine whether you would best be suited to private 1 to 1 lessons, or a group mat work class environment. It may be that you start with anything from 1 to 3 private lessons before you are able to join a class. This will depend on the availability of beginners classes, your fitness level and any past Pilates experience. I assess you as an individual and your safety and wellbeing are always my number one priority.

I look forward to welcoming you very soon.

Q: What if I am pregnant?

A: Please inform me as soon as you are aware that you are pregnant. If you have been exercising regularly, there is no reason why you should not continue to do so during pregnancy. Exercises can be readily adapted for you depending on where you are in your pregnancy and how much you have done prior to becoming pregnant, however, you must get your GP's approval before exercising.

If you have never done Pilates before, it is not recommended that you take up a new activity in your first trimester however once in your second trimester I can ensure that your exercises are tailored correctly and adapted if necessary.

Pilates is an effective way of helping to prepare for childbirth and motherhood.

Q: How long before I can do post-natal Pilates?

A: Once you have passed your 6 week check up with your healthcare professional you may begin exercise again. Please contact me to discuss further.
