Sports Physio

Who is it for?

Anyone, young or old, male or female, fit or less fit, that has a specific muscular injury, whether it's a result of sporting activity, DIY, gardening, or just bad posture.

What can it help with?

Addressing pain by taking muscles out of painful spasms, facilitated stretching to lengthen muscles and work to address sites of injury and pain. It can also help break down scar tissue from an injury, which if left untreated can impede muscle and joint performance.

What to expect

Often injuries or chronic discomfort are due to muscles being in spasm. So depending on the injury or issue being addressed, a deep tissue massage will focus directly on the affected area, or on a connected area that is causing the problem. For example, you may have a knotted muscle in your shoulder that needs direct attention, or you may need work on a thigh muscle in order to relieve knee pain. As a deep tissue massage aims to release tensions in these knotted muscles, it may be quite uncomfortable. But your level of discomfort is always very carefully monitored and you will soon find a distinction between "good pain" and "bad pain", the former is discomfort with a sense of release and relief.

How long is the appointment?

A sports physio appointment takes 1 hour.

Treatment length

It does all depend on the condition, but a specific injury may require 2 or 3 visits to resolve the problem, or if the purpose is to maintain or improve flexibility, you may require ongoing regular visits.

What should I wear?

Whatever you are comfortable in, but preferably something loose fitting that you can stretch freely in - leggings, tracksuit, t-shirt etc. Deep tissue massage is a hands-on therapy and you will probably need to remove clothing to facilitate access to your injury.

How much does it cost?

The cost is £40 per hour.
